Profile: Oconomowoc, located 30 miles west of Milwaukee and 45 miles east of Madison, is a stable progressive-minded community. The name was derived from an Indian phrase meaning "Where the water falls". Established as a city in 1875, adjacent lakes provide excellent boating and fishing. In a six-mile radius from the center of the city is Greater Oconomowoc with beautiful lake country areas for fine homes. Interstate 94 and Highway 16, which serve the city directly, provide excellent travel connections. Olympia Village, a dramatic new development, boasts its own man-made ski hill, convention center and Spa. The natural beauty of the surrounding lakeland, the fully developed cultural climate, the selectively planned industrial/commercial growth pattern, plus a consistently expanding economic prosperity offer inducement to families at all income levels. In late 1995, a new industrial park was built and is prospering.
