Named after the word “southern” in the Chippewa language, Shawano is a city in the county of the same name. Shawano is also the county seat of Shawano County. As of 2010, the city had a population of 9,305.
The City of Shawano is located right on the scenic Wolf River with Shawano Lake and all 6,215 acres of water waiting to be explored. On the river and in the lake you’ll find Pike, Bass, Sturgeon, and many more species. The river is also one of the best spots in the Midwest for whitewater rafting as it is one of America’s designated national Wild & Scenic Rivers.
