The Town of Rib Mountain is located directly to the southwest of Wausau and boasts a population of around 6,800 people. The town was originally named Erickson after Weston town chairman George Erickson. The name was changed in 1930 after the nearby Rib Mountain.
Rib Mountain State Park is the third highest location in Wisconsin at 1,924 feet above sea level. The formation of the mountain has been said to have started around 1.5 billion years ago. Today, Rib Mountain serves as a way for visitors to explore nature while soaking in the incredible views from the mountain. Within the park you’ll find multiple shelters that can be used as a quick place to stop and have a picnic, or rented out for private events. The amphitheater towards the top of the mountain will provide stunning views for whatever kind of event you’re planning.
On the edge of the Rib Mountain State Park you’ll find Granite Peak Ski Area, a ski hill with runs for skiers of all skill levels. The ski hill sports 68 runs with a mix of difficulties ranging from easy to difficult to advanced. These runs are split 30%, 35% and 35%, respectively. Granite Peak even offers Car to Lift Access which allows you to skip the ticket window if you purchased a ticket online.
