Known for its rich heritage and beautiful green spaces, the Village of Greendale consistently ranks as a favorite small town to visit and a great place to live and work. As of 2010, 14,046 people call Greendale home.
Greendale’s village center area is listed in the National and State Registers of Historic Places, with many buildings considered historically significant. Thee buildings came to be as a result of the “Greenbelt” community program created under FDR’s New Deal Program. These historical places are so popular in fact that they draw in bus tours during the spring and summer months of visitors who are eager to see the historical sites.
The village is also known for having extensive green areas within the village limits. There are flowers and well kept plants that line Broad Street in historic downtown and provide a scenic view during the summer months. The Greendale Garden Tour is also a great way for residents to spruce up their gardens and show them off on a walking tour around the town. Greendale is also known for having parades for every major holiday including Christmas, Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and more.
Within the village limits is Southridge Mall, Wisconsin’s largest mall. Southridge has over 120 stores that offer something for everyone. The nearby Scout Lake Park offers a paved loop around the lake where you can get some exercise in on a hot summer’s day. If you’re looking for a quiet spot to fish, head to the fishing pier located within the park and try your luck at Panfish and Bass.
