The city of Oconto was incorporated in 1869 and is the county seat for Oconto County.
It is located on the Bay of Green Bay which has the reputation of being one of the best walleye fisheries in the nation. The other is Lake Erie.
In addition to “The Bay” there are over 170 lakes and 50 rivers and streams to provide all types of water activities to the enthusiast.
If dry land is more your speed over there are trails for ATVs, snowmobiles , mountain bikes , cross-country skiing, and horseback riding.
There are also eight golf courses in the area.
Copper Culture State Park is a burial ground for the Copper Culture Indians.
