Phelps is a smaller town in the Northwoods of Wisconsin with a population of around 1300 people. The town is on the shores of the beautiful North Twin Lake and is tucked away in the Nicolet National Forest.
Within the forest you’ll find the Black Jack Wilderness and extensive hiking trails open to the public. Since areas of this trails do not permit motorized or wheeled vehicles, meaning your walk into the wilderness will be quiet and peaceful. As the trail gets deeper you’ll come across the Black Jack Spring Holes, which is the starting point of the Little Deerskin River. There are tons of opportunities to see wildlife in Phelps, including Bald Eagles. Given how north the town is you may even be able to see them downtown!
North Twin Lake is more than just a pretty sight, it also offers great fishing for the avid sportsman. Some species of fish that can be found in the lake are Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Walleye. The lake boasts very clear water and can reach depths of around 27 feet.
